Re: iRacing goodness!
Just upgraded to new motherboard, quad core processor, and 8gb of DDR5 RAM, still have a pair of NVidia cards in SLI for a total of 2gb video RAM. I have pretty much everything maxed out on iRacing except opponent pit crews (they're off) because I can never find my pit stall while trying to avoid morons in the pits. Single monitor, 24" and I get anywhere between 30 and 80fps depending on how many cars are immediately around me. Before I would drop to about 15 or so fps at the race start for the first half lap, that was with basically the CPU and RAM being exactly half the speed and capacity of what I have now. If you have a case and power supply (I have a 14 year old server case and 700 watt power supply) you can piece together a pretty nice computer for less than $500. I think my recent upgrades set be back $250 or something. NewEgg is good for inexpensive stuff, that's where I went for everything.

AMD Phenom II Quad core 3.4GHz/8GB RAM/Radeon 6950 HD vid card 2GB running 3 24" monitors in eyefinity/Windows 7 64-bit/Corsair TX650 Enthusiast series PSU/Gigabyte GA970 UD3 MB running 1600 DDR3
All of that lives in an Antec case with 3 fans. I don't overclock anything and my CPU and GPU temps never go over 40 degrees C. Make sure you get a MB with lots of USBs for all of your sim racing candy.
I get consistantly 80fps or higher running alone at most tracks. In heavy traffic on higher demand tracks I've dropped as low as 45fps but that's rare. I'm usually above my monitors' refresh rates of 60fps.

Okay, okay, a few ground rules for you deserters:
1) You still have to check in here - often.
2) No "In iRacing..." jokes when you're on Forza...
3) You still have to join us meager peasants on Forza every once in a while.
4) No "In iRacing..." jokes...
5) Did I say no "In iRacing" jokes???
Carry on.

I lol'd at that...
I'm not deserting, just getting the best* of both worlds.
*best of iRacing, and what seems to be the worse half of Forza

Also. I'd show up to more Forza races. except Thursdays at 9pm just doesn't work for me. The very latest you'll see me is the Doom II race at ZENORDSHLIEFENZESHEIZERDOOMRACE

I haven't had time for much of either of late. Have to say the more I play iracing the harder it is to play Forza. Just wish the car selection was better in iracing...

Re: iRacing goodness!
Just ran at Charlotte and Smus was there with me again. After he blocked me for a few laps I attempted a pass in the tri-ovalish area. Got loose, and went through the grass. This picture was taken in turn 1 after coming out of the grass just in time for said turn. I have a feeling that I lucked out big time this time around, because usually if you have to yank the wheel 90 degrees to the right in a banked left turn, you're probably going around. Luckily, I held on to it, lost a few seconds to Smus, but kept at it. After however many laps, I caught him and he may or may not have let me by. I had something for 3rd place towards the end, but not enough time to catch him. I took 4th, and Smus I think took 6th? 5th? I didn't pay attention and didn't save the replay. Good times were held by all, and the villagers rejoiced and whatnot.

Yeah Rem, I saw that! You had a close call. By the way, it was Sorta you were racing, not Smus.

Re: iRacing goodness!
My bad, sorry. Sorta, not Smus. I was a little tired and intoxicated last night lol. Still not sure how I held on to that, but I did tell my wife I hoped Tux was watching because I was tearing up the track last night. A few more laps and I would have had 3rd place I think. It was fun racing for sure. I'm currently downloading the Gen6 Chevy as well as a couple tracks so I'm going to be set for the first few weeks of the iRacing NASCAR series.

Re: iRacing goodness!
I wanted to race with you guys so bad, but I knew they wouldn't put me in your split. So, I decided to watch a bit instead and did see it took all of about two laps for Rem and Sorta to start battling a bit. Don't worry guys, I will run some private races at some point.

Wheel
Pedals
The shifter interfaces with the wheel, the wheel interfaces to the CPU via USB. The pedals use USB to the CPU as well. The pedals that come with the G27 are ok, but are inferior to the Fanatec Clubsports. Trust me, get the Clubsports. The only gripe I have with the pedals is that after a few weeks, they become noisy. I seemed to have solved that pretty good by disassembling them and coating friction surfaces with Ecto Lube, it's an automotive grease used for brakes. I'd be happy to answer any more questions you have.

Re: iRacing goodness!
Would an aerosol silcone lube help with the pedals? I use an aersol "White Lube" on mine. Seems to work pretty well...
Think WD-40 makes a silicon lube similar to that now. It works well too.
Both types actually leave grease on whatever you spray them on - not just a coating like normal WD-40

For me, aerosol couldn't get where I needed it, plus I also tried a silicone grease that only worked for a few days. The brake lube seems more resilient.

Re: iRacing goodness!
Or you could just sit the pedals in a tub of oil. Granted, your feet would get oily, but you would have smooth operation and smooth feet.
