Project CARS

Post  TuxTshirt on Fri Jan 11, 2013 10:52 pm

I'm not sure if any of you have heard of this game yet, but here's some videos and such. The graphics look superb, best I've seen.

Here's their website.

I don't know why this website screws up the videos. Sorry, just use the links to watch HD fullscreen anyway.
This looks quite ambitious, but some real eye candy. I hope they pull it off. Watch the driver's body in the last video, it looks lifelike.

Oh My God!
I love it and I too hope they pull it off.

The middle video posted, says "Build 189, pre-alpha" and it was posted April 8, 2012; nine months have elapsed since then. The third video posted says, "Pre-Alpha Build 327." They announce it coming for XBox 360; is it really coming for the 360 or is it listed for the 360 because they can't announce another XBox is in the works? Is it being released for 360 before E3 and before the new XBox hits shelves? All quite interesting stuff to consider.

Regardless of which XBox platform it is designed, this is great news. I am ecstatic that another company is putting pressure on the Turn 10 Studios crew. This will mean Forza Motorsport and Project Cars (presuming they both carry on) both become better as time ticks. I foresee Project Cars 2 and Forza Motorsport 6 as some über cool racing simulators.

It seems I must clarify this segment. These are the correct words. It was my full intention to say Project Cars 2 and Forza Motorsport 6. In this case I have no choice but to bypass Forza Motorsport 5. Yes, I know Forza Motorsport 5 is the next one scheduled and I am looking forward to it.

The features contained in Forza Motorsport 5 cannot be compared to Project Cars because this will be the first Project Cars game. There would have been little to no way for Turn 10 Studios to know what Slightly Mad Studios had up their sleeve for Project Cars. Slightly Mad Studios has the element of surprise here because they could have researched Forza Motorsport - Forza Motorsport 4, Gran Turismo - Gran Turismo 5, Race Pro, and others. When we get to Forza Motorsport 6 and Project Cars 2 each of the development teams will have time to engage in "programming battle."

Some battle... What can Forza excel in? Not properly hosting multiplayer races? Lag wrecking people? It should have most any other game out there beat for that!

Well, I guess Slightly Mad did put out NFS: Shift and Shift 2 so who knows what they can produce without EA pushing them in the NFS direction.

Is there any idea on when a beta would be released?

That looks like a fun segment of road but I can't pinpoint exactly where this exemplified stretch is. The last portion looks like Pismo Beach but the cloverleaf doing a descending 270° looks like a stretch just north of the Golden Gate. If sticking to 1 those are two locations separated by 260 miles. Did Slightly Mad slightly glue portions of the road together?

I perused through their overview.pdf and noticed who they consider to be their competition and how they class said competition.

FantasyArcadeActionRealSim
ModNation RacersBlurMotorstorm ApocalypseGRIDShift 2 UnleashedGran Turismo 5GTR 2
Mario KartNFS: Hot PursuitSplit/SecondDiRT 3F1 2011Forza Motorsport 4iRacing
So they class games like F.M. and G.T. to be real. I quite like that description because they both fall short of simulation but they are based in reality.

So the plan is to bring this to Xbox 1 and PS4 so I now am looking forward to hearing more news on the possible street date.

I'll get it for XBO, though I'm not buying the console until circa Black Friday next year. I'll also grab FM5, FM6, and FH2.

Another date push back to April 7, 2015, so that sucks but I presume it's to iron out more wrinkles. Here's what Amazon's preview says:

  • With a huge range of cars and motorsports on offer - everything from road cars, US muscle, and supercars, to GT, Le Mans Prototypes, open wheel, and even karts; whatever your passion, there's something perfect for you - with more being added regularly!
  • Create a driver, choose a starting motorsport, and sign your first contract. Succeed and you'll get offers from other teams, special invitations, and endorsements.
  • Create your own public and private race weekends including full practice, qualifying, and warmup sessions or browse and search all games currently being played across the globe to find the perfect game with others of your skill level and preference.
  • Challenge your friends and the worldwide community in asynchronous Time Trial challenges with full downloadable ghost leaderboards, or compete in a regularly-updated season of special community events for real-world prizes.
  • Race on over 60 unique tracks including closed circuits and point-to-point locations at any time of day and in ever-changing weather conditions.

I like a lot of what's listed; the two which jump out at me, creating our own race weekends, and choosing a starting motorsport. Rem., Sim, Lowrider, get the game and immediately jump into karting; you can learn a lot at that level.

It is released, http://www.projectcarsgame.com

I love what Top Gear wrote in review, "Forza and Gran Turismo finally have genuine competition on the racing podium." Rem, this is the missing competition those two titles needed to push their respective developers to greatness. Don't kick Forza out of your life completely just yet. Competition brings out the best in the business.
