Offical Scoring Rules
The foundation for the American Iron Racing Series scoring is based on the American Le Mans Series scoring system. And has two main categories: driver scoring and manufacturer scoring.
This system was chosen for its two key principals: Expansionism and Experience (or E²). The A.L.M.S. scoring system is an ideal model for a multiclass series, as it does not lump finishers into a typical first-to-last ordering. The A.L.M.S. scoring system allows for points to be added (equally) to each existing place to allow for expansion in each class. Currently in the American Iron Racing Series, the first place racer is awarded 30 points, which allows for up to 20 racers to race in each class.
The scoring for American Iron Racing Series drivers is as follows:
Any driver that does not finish (DNF) a race will be awarded last place points for that event. If multiple racers do not finish, they will tie for last place.
Any driver that does not start (DNS) the race will be awarded the position behind the last place racer who made the event. Again, if multiple racers do not start, they will tie for that event.
The purpose behind this is to accomodate the scheduling conflicts of the real world. If a racer misses a race or two, they will not be mathematically eliminated from the competition completely, and would still have a chance at winning the championship.
Also, note that last place does not mean 20th. If only 5 racers race a given event, the last place driver would still receive 18 points.
In addition to the standard points system, 3 bonus points are awarded to the racer (one in each class) with the fastest qualifying time.
If you know you cannot make the event on race day, race by yourself (with no AI) for the set number of laps (including the pace lap) that week and send the replay to the race steward for review. You will be awarded DNS points, but bonus points will be added to your score to tie you with the last running car for that week.
In example, if ten racers meet on race day, but you raced at a time before race day and sent in a replay, you will be scored in 11th place and be given 1 bonus point to tie for 10th place. If only four racers were to meet on race day, you would be scored in 5th place and given 2 bonus points to tie for 4th. The point structure staggers as it declines so the bonus points can vary.
If lag disconnects you and your XBox allows you to continue racing, do so! Save the replay at the end of your race and send it to the race steward. You will receive more points for doing this.
Points from participating in and finishing the actual event are the best way to move up in the series, but points rewarded from a submitted replay can be almost as good. Also, if for some reason you cannot finish, you will still be awarded points. Even those that do not start the race or submit a replay of any kind will be rewarded some points, though you will find it very hard to win the championship if you do not participate.
--------------------------------------------------
The manufacturers' points are scored similarly, with points awarded as follows:
The highest finishing car for each manufacturer is the car which awards the manufacturer points.
If the race results are as follows, GM would be awarded 1st place points, Chrysler 2nd, and Ford 3rd:
It does not matter that GM finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, or that the first Ford to finish was in 8th place. Also, note the seperate brands are grouped under their parent companies as a single manufacturer, not seperate entities.

Re: Offical Scoring Rules
Season II updates:
Manufacturers points will stay the same at 15, 11, and 8.
Drivers points altered to fit a maximum of 16 racers.
25
21
18
15
13
11
9
8
7 and on down by one. 15th and 16th both earn 1 point.
New bonus points system! Example below.
I will review the finishing order after every race and will award bonus points to racers of cars with less PI who beat racers of cars with more PI. This system won't be a lot of points and it won't work in reverse (losing points for placing behind someone with less PI). I will factor a number for everyone off the PI of the highest racer's car. These factors are generally below the 1.03 range, many spanning from 1.008 and 1.01.
Because I have -35% cars and cars built to straight standards I will add bonus points respective to your build type and I'll add bonus points respective to AI & AIX classes.
Example:
Suppose a racer placed higher than four people after a race. I'd add those four cars' factors (while keeping the one's digit a one) and multiply their position points by the sum of those factors.
Player K finished 1st. K finished ahead of 6 cars with better PI numbers. Their bonus score equates to 1.090
Player O finished 2nd. O finished ahead of 9 cars with better PI numbers. Their bonus score equates to 1.219
Player J finished 3rd. J finished ahead of 5 cars with better PI numbers. Their bonus score equates to 1.037
First place is 25 points multiplied by the extra 1.09 becomes 27 points.
Second place is 21 points multiplied by the extra 1.219 becomes 25 points.
Third place is 18 points multiplied by the extra 1.037 holds at 18 points.
You'll notice I'm only scoring whole numbers. If the multiplication doesn't bump the standard score one whole number (as in J's case above), there aren't enough bonus points to add.
Since it would be expected for racers of cars with more PI to finish higher, there wouldn't be any bonus possible for driver(s) racing in cars with the highest PI. Their score(s) would just be straight across the board.
