Points Structure Empty Points Structure

Post  Avanti 63r1025 Wed Jan 30, 2013 9:33 pm

I am considering tabulating manufacturers points, only.

  1. 9 points
  2. 6 points
  3. 4 points
  4. 3 points
The S.C.C.A. scored points this way for the first few seasons of Trans-Am. The real series kept Dodge and Plymouth separate but I would lump the related 'O' class manufacturers together. The 'U' class didn't have numerous brands under one corporation.

  • American Motors
  • Chevrolet & Pontiac
  • Dodge & Plymouth
  • Ford, Mercury & Shelby
  • Alfa Romeo
  • Datsun
  • Lotus
This structure eliminates points for the individual and (in theory) forms teams. As in my American Iron manufacturers point structure, overall place does not factor, rather the field is scored as a collective group. The first Ford product may finish 8th overall and still earn points for 3rd place because a whole'lotta Chrysler and G.M. products finished 1st through 7th.
If a Plymouth has an enormous lead at an event, other drivers of Dodge and Plymouth vehicles can take their driving down to seven or eight tenths to reduce chances of *ahem* screwing the pooch.
If two cars under one corporation are in the lead, such as a Camaro and a Firebird, the two drivers should motivate each other while being conscientious and not wrecking each other or cars from other manufacturers; this is not roller derby.

I like it! Though I'd be the weak link out of my presumed teammates...

Interesting idea. It would be a cool change I think. I'd roll with it.

Doubtful. I will be hauling back the fast drivers, aiding the back of the pack, and bunching the field in the middle.

I have decided to tabulate manufacturers points only, exactly as the SCCA did for Trans-Am the first few seasons. Points shall be exactly as initial post shows: 9, 6, 4, 3. Drivers, work with your teammates.

I like the idea of the Manufacturer's based scoring, but I want to be clear on something.

Basically of the manufacturers, only the highest placing vehicle from a particular manufacturer is going to acquire points for them? So if two Chevies place 1st and 2nd, a Ford in 3rd and a Dodge in 4th. It would go like....

1 - Chevy
2 - Ford
3 - Dodge

Are there no bonuses or additional points for a 1-2 finish for the GM camp? It pretty much makes it a wash if a manufactuer places 1-2, because only the higher finishing vehicle is making points for their mark. It may not be a possibility, but it would be cool if there was some sort of added incentive if a manufacturer takes top fnishing positions together, that would also add to the working with your teammate(s) idea.

Could it be points relative to finishing position of the best car? Example being 16 points for 1st and maybe 1-3 are GM powered, so the 4th placed Ford would get 4th place points instead?

Just throwing it out, although the 3 points is a good spread. Maybe a bonus point for taking 2 of the top 3 or forr having the podium one maker.

How are you scoring AMC? As a Chrysler product or o its own?

Yes, it's simply points based off the highest finishing car. The points split of three then two then one progressing between first and fourth is the bonus, rather than having one point spread between each place.

The idea of helping your teammates is the idea that you'll want to help them tune, (bump) draft, and in their battles on the track.
