I've noticed something with the real life Rolex series...
We have been watching the Rolex series the last few weeks and have noticed something quite interesting. Not only can you spin off track and not have it cause a yellow, but parts can be hanging off your car and they won't say much about it. Which is cool really, because with how many cars go around any given week that would be a lot of boring yellow flag time. However, has anyone noticed that when someone wrecks, it's NEVER their fault? I forget the car number, but a blue DP on the first lap in turn 3 got turned around and put the left rear in the wall. Of course it wasn't his fault, despite the fact that he was forcing a pass on the inside the turn before, then cut down like there was no car on his left for the next turn. It's amazing to see how many wrecks are because people don't give any space and just run their own line. Kind of like racing online actually...

In road course racing if a car spins off in an area deemed by officials to be "safe and out of harm's way" then it's up to the driver to either get back on the race course or climb out of the car, hop over the wall, and call it a day. Other factors play into the officials' decision though that's the basic gist of it.Remaggib wrote:We have been watching the Rolex series the last few weeks and have noticed something quite interesting. Yeah, I do like that strategy, keeps yellow flags down.

Road course racing also uses local cautions where necessary. I've seen cars turned sidewards (yeah, I said sidewards) in the middle of the line, and the track stewards will just warn the approaching drivers instead of bringing out the full course yellow.

They also rarely call yellows for debris.
