Hi can anybody please ID/State what should have been done by the organisers controlling the event/Race if 2 Race cars come along there with Cold Slick Tires on. If you are associated in Motorsport please state? Thank You Very Much Daniel Eady

All I see is a picture, hard to tell from just that.

Not really sure this is the place to get a definitive answer, but here's my opinion:

That's a wet track, very wet. However, depending on the series, wet tracks might not mean a stoppage of racing on their own. If this is the case, then any accidents caused by a car using slick tires on a wet surface are the responsibility of whoever made.the call to race with slicks and not grooved tires.

End of story.

Your choice, your consequences...

Hi Daniel and welcome to the Forza-4 Road Racing forums. I agree with Simcik, this is not the location to receive a definitive answer. Our members mostly race digitally though we have some experience with amateur or grassroots motorsport events.

Now, my take on your situation. The organizers / controllers of the event could have done a variety of things ranging from nothing to waving a red flag. It's difficult to give a firm answer basing one's judgement from one still picture. More background information, a video clip, or at least more photographs would be of great value. What series is racing? Do they normally race in wet conditions? Are the clouds only overhead, does the weather service say more is coming, or has all precipitation already fallen? If the controllers do nothing it becomes the teams' responsibility to make the safest decisions.

Two cars approaching this location, both cars equipped with cold race slicks:
  • The corner workers could be waving local yellow flags or "debris on track" flags.
  • The drivers have to know the surface is wet, they should be driving slower.
  • The race official could bring out a full-course caution or red flag the event.
Here again, more scenario information would be helpful. If the two drivers approaching this location are (who I like to call) "Chief Wahoo" characters, then a resulting collision is entirely upon them.

National Auto Sport Association hosts the 25-hrs. of Thunderhill (Willows, CA) every year in early December. One year in recent history it became the 17-hrs. of Thunderhill because tule fog settled over the track and officials red flagged the race until conditions became more safe. This was a case where race officials didn't hesitate as tule fog is a serious hazard to a driving environment.
