I would race in the smaller displacement class if one were available
Lower Class?
This poll will last until the end of January so you have some time but not forever to answer. You may not have multiple votes though you may cancel your vote if you change your mind between now and the expiration date.

Re: Lower Class?
The B class cars were at the top of my comfort zone, so totally lower class races for me... And honestly, the less you can tune, the better for me.

Re: Lower Class?
2 5 challenge cars would be a blast.
Datsun, BMW, Alfa Romeo, Lotus...could be some great racing.

Re: Lower Class?
The BMW 2002 would be legit if it weren't the turbo model or if we could perform the 'aspiration removal' trick. I may find a way to equalize it with the other cars though as of now it's not looking good.

Re: Lower Class?
Its definitely an alpha car for that class. It and the skyline are brutally quick from my recollection

Rem, this class would also have minimal tuning so it could be right up your alley: B class and very few tuning capabilities.Remaggib wrote:The B class cars were at the top of my comfort zone, so totally lower class races for me... And honestly, the less you can tune, the better for me.
Smus and Rem., I sent you builds for the two five challenge class. Test them, put them through the wringer for me. Let me know if you find anomalies. If anybody else would like to test the two five challenge class cars, let me know here or on XBox Live.

Re: Lower Class?
Thank you guys. If we're going purist, only the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Lotus/Ford Cortina, and the Nissan/Datsun 510 are legit. I added the other three cars for some diversity though they could easily be dropped.
I've thought of a way to include the BMW 2002 turbo, it involves adding a turbo to the other cars (they all have that upgrade). My aim would be to keep their current performance index range except the entire two-five class would be turbocharged.

I'm on the fence with this one. I enjoy running the lower classes as well, but I think I enjoy running around in a V8 powered car more.

Re: Lower Class?
Avanti, I have 2 pictures on my storefront from running some laps today. Unfortunately with these new pills I can't sit still for very long without getting real restless or falling asleep. Sometimes both. Will run more laps soon, I did notice between the 2 cars there was a definite time difference at Sunset infield.

Re: Lower Class?
Well I took all the cars and ran a set of laps on Sunset Reverse and Laguna Seca, so here are my times.
Sunset Reverse
Escort: 1:48.60
Cortina: 1:49.08
Alfa: 1:46.27
Skyline: 1:45.86
510: 1:58*
MGB: 1:48*
240Z: 1:48.96
I built a 240Z to what I am figuring is your formula in a 10:1 ratio with proper tire width.
Anywyas, here's my testing method...Started at the top of the list as written for Sunset, so Escort on down. Then, for Laguna I reversed the order and began with the MGB. I ran laps with each car as built stock with no tuning but I did make adjustments for each car.
Sunset:
Escort: I got damage on Lap 2 which effected aero so times may have been low because of that, top speed was around 124.
Cortina: No damage, but I did adjust gearing. Top speed was 118
Alfa: I dropped the ratios on the Alfa and I thought this car would be the one to beat before I drove the Skyline. It's stable enough to drive it hard and the times show that. Top speed was 128.
Skyilne: This thing is fast on the long straights, and the motor sounds awesome. It has almost the same stability of the Cortina with the speed of the Alfa and then some. Top speed 129
510: I kept rolling the damn thing. Best time I got was 1:58 and I know it can do it better. I had ran about 4 laps and if I remember correctly it was in the high 1:40's but I cant remember. Again, I think the 4 speed really hampers the car. Top speed 120 mph
MG: This car was also decently quick, but didn't have the same feel of overall speed of the Alfa or Skyilne, just seemed less stable. Top speed 129
240Z: Had good feel, not extremely fast. Top speed 122
Laguna
Escort: 1:40.81
Cortina: 1:43.35
Alfa: 1:40.72
Skyline 1:41.23
MG: 1:43.106
240Z: 1:42.41
The Escort got a lower rear diff ratio, I believe I put it down to 25%. It was still twitchy but as you see it was fast but didn't feel like it. I think it has a ton of potential if someone can drive it right and work with tuning the little you can adjust. The Cortina was again the slowest but again felt the most stable. Alfa was blistering. The close ratio gearing is just great for racing. Skyline was a little slower, but I think it was me more so than the car. MG was the first car I drove on the track and it seemed to get a little unsettled more readily than the others. 240Z felt pokey and it was.

Re: Lower Class?
I don't have a writeup like that, but I did run a few laps in each car around Sunset. Well, each car I have. Stupid DLC.
Alfa 1:47.4
71 Skyline 1:47.6
Lotus Cortina 1:50.4
Nissan Datsun 1:55.5
I rolled over every one of them by hitting the curbing. So don't do that.
However, for an anomaly, how's this... The 70 Nissan Datsun 510, with this build at least, has only 1 functioning brake light. The left bulb is burnt out on my game. Can anyone else confirm this?

Re: Lower Class?
B class is really fun, C is okay. Much below there and it gets boring, cause no one has power to do anything with or get hurt by. Anyway... If you're considering multi-class racing, I'm all for this. If you're considering this instead of the current builds, then no, I'm not a fan.
Re: Lower Class?
They're all B class cars. ~125 mph top speed. TA ran the 2.5 Challenge and that would be these cars. They're a boat load of fun. I think the Alfa in its current form could run with the TA cars, especially on the more technical tracks.

Re: Lower Class?
This is me enjoying the thrill of multi-class racing. If we get a field of 10 O5U7 cars and 6 Two-Five Challenge cars (+/-1 ea. class) that would be slick.
Power wise all Two-Five cars start with: race carburetor and race exhaust, and are then built to the 10:1 ratio from there using no new technology parts.

I like the multi-class racing, I can't say I would run the 4 bangers around myself, I'm too attached to the V8 cars.

Re: Lower Class?
Im with Stalker. I dont mind the option and just like the current series its always nice that everyone gets to race a car they really like. But I just dont fancy any of the U2 cars. They dont do anything to my nethers so Ill stick to my compensation cars that all the hippies say I like in order to mask other inadequacies. Those inadequacies are any desire to be a stupid hippie. Oh burn! Take that hippie!

Re: Lower Class?
I'm not sure why, but I really like the U2 cars. And they are a lot of fun to drive, IMHO. I'm still trying to find one that beats the BMW. It seems like it's the best out of all of them. But I haven't tried them all yet. I would love it if we could get some of these cars in the mix. I know I know. I'm a broken record. LOL.

Re: Lower Class?
Don't worry about finding a car that beats a certain car. [Since I can't have us build engines or fit restrictor plates, etc.] we put the buckets to use and balance the field that way.
If you're fast I choke the build in one of a few ways: dropping power via lesser parts, putting you in a -% power bucket, or by mandating lesser suspension parts; ask Stalker about racing with mismatched front and rear sway bars. If you're slow I either allow you to have more power, or I place the fastest cars in a deeper -% power bucket and move the middle of the field into the -% power bucket vacated by the top cars.
To simplify it: We have ways to cluster the group.

Re: Lower Class?
Interesting. Cool.
After doing a lot of driving with a lot of the different cars, especially in U2, there is not a TON of difference between some of them. So.... I can see how a little tweak here and there would even out the playing field. However, some people will take the exact same car I have and be a lot faster than I would. So..... I guess your saying you try to keep it as close and competitive as possible, eh? Sounds good. Now I'm even more excited.
I guess I'll just keep practicing. LOL. I'm getting better. But I do favor some cars over others. I guess that's OK. Do you guys find that you like certain cars more than others due to your driving style? Or do you just adapt to every car very well and have similar times?
Also, what's your consensus on the 1977 Escort for U2? It isn't QUITE the same car as the Escort of the early 70's. But very similar. I'm not sure what the big difference is other than the grill on the older car got thinner in between the headlights and the newer one just looks like a big rectangle with no changes in profile. The car itself is maybe a bit boxier than the older version too. Eh? But does it suffice for the old one. Because I noticed the older escort participated in Trans Am and other sports car races of that era.

Yep, the '77 Escort is cool for U2. I'll post the U2 builds I have to my storefront in a bit.
