Historic Trans-Am liveries
Continually check this thread for I² (ideas and information). What I'm trying to do is get a handful of painters to work with me. The painters I am trying to recruit are painters who have created historical Trans-Am liveries. I have collected a bunch of liveries, sometimes multiple versions of the same livery.
Designs sold on the storefront are locked. Vinyls are too though vinyls can be segments of a whole and moved around. I have a vision of some painters creating modular liveries; liveries to be custom assembled. Liveries so people can race a plum crazy 'Cuda and not have to "be" Swede Savage or Dan Gurney. Liveries so people can race a blue Sunoco Camaro and not have to "be" Mark Donohue. I hope that the group of painters I've messaged can come up with font matching numbers so anyone wishing to drive the sublime Challenger can be a number other than 76 or 77.
A lot was simple in the 1960s and 1970s and a theme of keep it simple, stupid has percolated throughout the builds I assembled. Liveries were simple and I hope people can create their own realistic liveries for this series. Throughout this subforum will be links to historical Trans-Am websites. These websites will have, amongst other things, visuals to gain inspiration for your livery.

Another great find there Geoffy... If I run the 68 I will most likely copy the 66 design.

For the U2 cars that did not run Trans Am, alternate liveries from other series may be used? Or could I use a BRE design on the Skyline for example.

Re: Historic Trans-Am liveries
Yes you may race with an alternate livery, or as your example shows, the livery from another car.
More often than not back then, your race paint job was the factory paint job. All that was required then was the series sticker, some sponsor stickers (largest ones being bumper sticker size), and a number board.
Edit: More livery images found here.

Another useful resource in trying to recreate liveries is to use the Historic Trans Am websites results list, to find the proper name for the sponsors, car model, and driver as well.
Another extremely useful tool is free image hosting websites such as Flickr, Squid and I were able to correctly ID the sticker on the 71 AMC due to absolutely massive images taken by someone...were talking 3xxxX2xxx pixels

Good lookin' out guys. The problem I'm having is when I type Trans-Am in search engines, I get an awful lot of Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am results. Ugh! Cool car, yes yes. But that's not what I want! LOL.

Re: Historic Trans-Am liveries
Ha! They are great cars, but I feel your pain...trying to find high quality images of the cars is extremely difficult...they're used pretty often at the "historical races" but either the photos are small and grainy or there is not ability to make them large enough to get the images...
This was the picture of the AMC I was talking about...both can be blown up if you open the image in a new tab/window
Found a pretty good image of a 1970 Chaparral Camaro.

Re: Historic Trans-Am liveries
New information here. Max is one livery creatin' stud and Smus is also helping me create historic liveries. Squid has created a few designs and has been working the Mopar side of things.
I am going to have racers select their car (Cougar, Javelin, Mustang, Challenger, Camaro, …) and number. Given our resources, we'll do our best to create you a historic livery with your chosen number.
Ex. We may have a green "Sam Posey" Challenger with a number other than 77. A red/white/blue "Mark Donohue" Javelin with a number other than 6. A plum "Swede Savage" 'Cuda with a number other than 42. You get the idea.

Re: Historic Trans-Am liveries
As we near the start date please remember that a real livery is priority number one. If you must race a custom livery, you shall use historic appearing vinyls to make your car period correct.

Re: Historic Trans-Am liveries
Max helped me create a custom Terlingua livery of sorts for my 69' Shelby. To my knowledge, an actual 69' Shelby was not used in T/A, unless you know of something, I haven't found anything.

Nope, you're not missing anything and if Max helped you, it's good.
