2015 Mustang Leaked

Post  Simcik on Tue Dec 03, 2013 10:05 pm

Was due out Thursday - got here a little early...

My opinion: Meh on the front. Cool on the back. (Expect for the painted diffuser. I think if it was black it would look better.)

Looking more pictures via the original source, you can see the side and interior, as well as some more details.

The side looks okay to me, very similar to the 370z in proportions, slightly better actually.

The interior looks good, until you realize just how many buttons they've hidden everywhere (especially the steering wheel) and just how small they are...

I'm with you on this one Sim.  I didn't like the refresh for the latest model though when they came out with it and it's grown on me.  For now though I'll keep my fox.

I already knew it wasn't a Dodge Sim.....

In all honesty, I like most of it. I like most of the front; foglight, grill, lower valance, but I still don't like the headlights, they just don't look right on it. I thought the 10-14's were a perfect amount of retro and modern, I always thought the 05-09's were bland. I'm exceited to see the SVT model of the 15'. They always look much better than the base cars.

The biggest deal for the 15' is all underneath though. Lots of changes and some I could do without, but will please the overseas crowd and Car and not American.... I mean Car and Driver. Motor Trendy, etc....

In the end, I won't get one because they are too damn expensive. I still think the 99-04's were the best looking late-models, and they will accept the powertrain from the 11'+ models. I will put a Coyote in my 99' GT one of these days.

I don't know Sim, that steering wheel looks EXACTLY like a Mopar I know....

...in the button department that is.

Yep - and I don't like those either. I'm fine with a few buttons, but my thumb is only so nimble...

The center stack gets very busy at the bottom, too. Very small buttons, very close to each other - not a good thing.

TIME has much better images...

In these, the front end doesn't look nearly as awful.

I agree Sim, the pictures from TIME look good.

I like the changes Ford has made for this Mustang, they have cut size and presumably nailed their "previous generation - 400 pounds" goal. I'm definitely interested in reading the new Mustang's specifications: wheelbase, track widths, curb weight, et al, and comparing them to earlier models.

When Parnelli Jones helped tune the Boss 302 Laguna Seca edition, their bar was an M3 time. What has the M3 been since its inception? A 2+2 sport coupé (exception being E36 saloon) with independent rear suspension. Since Ford will be selling this Mustang worldwide and since they're in competition with M3 (now M4) the changes to satisfy the Europeans was inevitable. I can't wait to hear what the Top Gear hosts (both shows) say.

Meanwhile, the big blue box (GM) guys have other targets in mind,
Dan Oppenheiser, Camaro Chief Engineer wrote:We wanna actually be in conversations with uh, 911 GT3 Porsche and the Nissan GT-R.
Yikes! Those are platforms their 'Vette co-workers could tackle and yet they want to battle sports cars with a sport coupé.

I am excited for our pony cars (big surprise, right?) and I'm genuinely interested to hear Dodge's plans for the Challenger.

Not quite - they are about 200lbs lighter, and that's only on certain models/configurations.

Yeah, me too. (Re. Challenger)

There was a lot of info leaking out over the summer - and even more speculation. Now it's gone cold. Either shit fell through, or they're planning something huge and very different.

What we know for sure is that the 6.2L Hellcat is for real, it will be in the car, it will be supercharged, and it will be available with the ZF 8-speed.

Beyond that, it's just speculation.

There's been talk of a super- or turbo-charged Pentastar, an OHC Hemi, etc. There's been talk of a refreshed body, and a whole new body. There's been talk of a size decrease, there's been talk of no changes (It is known that there is a RWD mid-sized car coming soon, so I doubt the Chally get's too much smaller - meaning it may not be as nimble as the Mustang or Camaro, but it will still be plenty fast and it will be far more practical.) to the size. Most of the info coming out as of late was in regards to the engine. The 6.2L is based on the current 5.7L Eagle motor (the Eagle is the 2nd 5.7L, most notably differentiated by the presence of VVT), but it appears now that the 6.2L is actually more new than current. It's thought to be the first of a new generation (Gen IV) of Hemi engines, using many of the tricks learned on the Pentastar and 6.4L Hemi engines, and going even beyond that. We may finally get that legendary "cammer" version of the Hemi.

If you didn't know, they did build several of those (I think it was 3 - I'll try to find the report..). Hemi's with OHC, I mean. Pretty sure it was an SOHC configuration, not DOHC. It was still making loads of power at over 10,000 RPM, but it lost two big driving factors for it's development: First, NASCAR banned the Hemi, then the cost of fuel went up shortly after. Got my articles crossed. There were only 2 built - 1 still exists. They never ran under their own power. The 10,000 RPM motor existed, but it was a good ol' OHV engine...

Okay, back to the Ferd...

Well that stinks, I was hoping for a more svelte pony car. 2012 GT coupe is listed at 3,603 pounds and 2012 GT convertible is listed at 3,720 pounds (both curb weight). A 3,200 pound 2015 GT coupe would be one nimble corner carver.

What will most likely happen is the 4 cylinder Ecoboost version will check in near a 400 lb. weight difference, to around 3200. The base V8 GT is going to drop around 200 lbs. I imagine the V6 will be similar, possibly the 250 range. The top model Shelby or Cobra will probably weigh around what a current GT does.

Any way it comes out, it still is currently the lightest of the 3 pony cars, and its going to be even lighter. Combine that with the same to slighlty increased power over 2014 models, and you have one very quick car in any form.

The talks about the top model, be it a Cobra, Shelby, Mach, etc, is very interesting. Ford is looking to get rid of the Trinity motor (5.8L S/C) that currently sits in the GT500. Mostly because its based on the 5.4L and they want the new 5.0 and 6.2 motors to be their main gas V8's. I have heard that the next top model V8 will still have the 662 HP Trinity motor, but after that, there may be plans for a turbocharged 5.0 or possibly a 5.5 variant.

That doesn't sound too far fetched seeing as how Ecoboost is a huge marketing deal for Ford right now, and the last Cobra Jet was powered by a twin turbo 5.0 Coyote motor. They already have the turbos; the ones on the Cobra Jet came from the Focus ST (x2).
