Re: dodge boys
It is a bit FUGLY.
Would need some more work before it could be passed off as a Daytona.

Re: dodge boys
Shouldn't that add-on technically be on a 2-door Charger? Which uh, doesn't currently exist.

I actually think that first pic looks pretty darn good. Why haven't they done this (2 door charger)?

Re: dodge boys
The current car was never meant to be a Charger - it was supposed to be the next Intrepid. The named changed for marketing purposes.
That being said, the 4-door platform makes sense. That is today's muscle cars. A fast, family car. (No one bitches at the M5 for being a 4-door...)
Also, the '99 Charger concept was a 4-door, though it didn't look it.

Re: dodge boys
Anyway - as to why they haven't done it:
Reason 1: Charger was dead. It's a little different bringing an old name back that taking a current name and changing it drastically. A 4-door Mustang wouldn't make as much sense, as the Mustang has never gone away. The last real Chargers were made in the 70s. They were gone for 30 years. That's at least a whole generation that has no idea what a Charger is/was.
Reason 2: Charger was a muscle car. It was a family car that hauled ass. The new Charger fits that mold perfectly, while making concessions to customers of today that want it all.
Reason 3: The people that had or wanted to have a Charger now had kids and families and needed a practical car, but still always wanted the Charger.
Reason 4: Having a "track day" or strictly performance car is not possible for everyone. I'm sure, if Dodge had it their way, we'd all have a normal car and Viper sitting in our driveway. The Charger is a great family car/grocery-getter during the week, but is still fun and sporty for the weekends.
Reason 5: The current safety regs make it really hard for hardtops/coupes to pass snuff. Especially in side impact tests, hardtops lack critical side support. Coupes make up for the strength by removing a good chunk of visibilty.
Reason 6: Ever tried to get into the back of an old Charger?

Re: dodge boys
FYI: The Daytona and the Superbird share no common body panels. In fact, they've got almost nothing in common.

Re: dodge boys
Still would rather have a 2 door Charger over a 4.

Re: dodge boys
Touché Tux. That's correct. I hadn't spotted the sticker before. Yeah, let's bring back Plymouth (and Mercury and Pontiac and …)
I'd also rather see the Charger released in 2-door form. Those renderings in black look incredible, it's like a modernized Blade Charger.
Muscle cars are supposed to be 2+2 and they're technically supposed to borrow a bigger engine from a larger car within corporate stables. It's perfectly fine to be a muscular sedan though at that point it's not a muscle car in the truest definition.
Nobody bitches at the [M5, Benz S class, Audi RS 6, et al.] for being a sedan because that's just what they are. Europe has their saloon [sedan] thing, the aptly named Bahn stormers. BMW builds the M5 as their muscular sedan and builds the M3 as their "pony car". Dodge has the Charger and brass decided to make it a muscular sedan. It is what it is. On the same coin we now have a FWD Dart. People who know '60s cars are going to say, "That's not a Dart!"
I wanted to highlight something from the Winged Warriors page, "Even Virgil Exner understood aerodynamic principles …" I know about him. He went to Notre Dame (Indiana) and later worked for Studebaker.
I don't know how much involvement you have at allpar Sim, though author should change multiple spellings of Larry "Chinoda" to "Shinoda". Shinoda had involvement with Corvette and Mustang.

Re: dodge boys
I will send Dave a message. (Though, to be honest, just about anyone could do that.)
And that piece I had was an old writing assignment I dug up and passed on to Allpar. Not really a big deal, just neat.
