I can't remember if I posted this earlier but I have a friend who has a Challenger R/T and he let me drive it a couple of summers ago.  It was smooth.  I liked it a lot.  I do like the way they look and is probably the most practical of the three pony cars.  And I also like the way the new Dart looks.  If I thought it would be reliable, I would think it would be a nice car to have. We own a Focus which is basically the same class of car.   I haven't read a lot of reviews on it but I think I did read a long term review from Car and Driver or something.  And I think they were saying the smaller engine is underpowered.  But it rode nice.  ???  I think.  I forget.

Anyways....

My point is I'm not trying to be unfair about it all.   But all experience has a certain amount of bias.

ab, you're taking this group's comments far too seriously.  Very Happy

We all like to joke around and pick at each other. Well, to be more clear, everyone else likes to pick on me, and I like to try to get even every once in a while.  Twisted Evil

We all give each other a hard time about something or other, because we're all car guys, and that's what car guys do, but we all respect each other at the end of the day. No one is going to judge you too harshly on your opinions. (Except maybe Squid.)  Wink

HEY I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK.

I got ya.  The humor actually isn't lost on me, I'm just not very good at it.  hehehehe  Plus I don't know you all as well as you all know each other.

Plus I just like talking about cars.

Here's another issue I struggle with in my mind.  Since were going on about cars.  For me, a car has to look good to be a good car.  But there are a lot of cars that aren't necessarily very good looking, but are good cars.   Plus it's all so relative.  And then there are a lot of cars that look good, that I think might not be considered good cars at all.   I guess I have a hard time picking a "favorite" car, is my point.  When we have so many options in the game.  Like someone said, pick one you want and focus on it.  For some reason it's hard to do.  Like I LOVE the 70 Mustang.   I think it's one of the best looking ones.  But I can't stand driving it.  Probably if I drove it enough, I'd get used to it, but not sure I want to.  But for me the 70 Camaro and the 70 Mustang are the best looking.  The 70 Camaro is a bit easier to handle, but still no walk in the park and I find myself not liking some of it's attributes.  It's heavy, the body rolls a lot and it's a bit challenging for me to make it go where I want it to.  Without being really sloppy.  Although I have had some fast times, for me, with it.  Then there are clearly cars I've tried that I can drive better, but I'm not real into them.  I think the 68 Firebird handles very well for me, but I have no tie to that car.  It doesn't excite me very much.

Anybody else deal with this?

OK, I'll assume the silence is because my question was "gay".  LOL.   Or nobody knew what to say about all that.  I talk too much.  (type).

But, here's one maybe some of you can explain to me.  I didn't realize that I have been running an "assist" to a degree.  I've had my steering on "normal" all this time because I thought that was proper.  And not an assist.  I didn't realize there was "simulation".  Do any of you stick with "normal"?  Or do you all run "simulation" steering.

I like the feel of simulation steering better.  I think it's smoother.  It does feel more real too.  BUT, it seems like it's easier to spin out than with normal.  Now I'm kind of worried I'm back to square one in learning how to drive.  But, it seems like the benefits of sim might be quicker lap times.  Someone on the Forza forum was saying it allows you to turn in quicker.  Which seems kind of odd.

What you all think?

Regarding your previous question, usually I'd say go with function over form and pick the car in which you're quickest. In this series I work with racers who choose what they like. I'd rather you enjoy being in a '70 Mustang or '70 Camaro than in the '68 Firebird and not finding it desirable.

Steering question- Simulation steering does allow quicker turn in. Normal steering numbs your inputs whereas simulation steering takes every input you throw at it.

Examples

  • From centered to full lock instantly on normal steering: You'll achieve full lock … … eventually. Normal steering takes its time when you make drastic movements. Speaking frankly, this mode is so Rem's favorite 8-year old crasher group can play the game.
  • From centered to full lock instantly on simulation steering: You'll achieve full lo-instantly! Simulation steering is on a 1:1 ratio input device to the car's steering wheel. With a controller this steering can be a bit of a bear because a surgeons touch is required.

Well I understand that only one of you all uses a wheel, so what do you guys use?  I totally like the feel of sim steering.  It does feel more real.  But there are drawbacks.  I'm learning how to just let go of the wheel when getting loose.  Because when you try to correct a loose tail, if it's drastic enough, you overcorrect and then it's back and forth and spin.  But the point is, I'm slower now at all the tracks.  It's like I have to relearn.  I think I'm going to stick with it for now, because it does FEEL more real and better.  But it's frustrating.  I've lost a second or two on each track for now.

Does any of you run normal steering?  I found my thumb being a little more "used" LOL.  I was like, whoooooa, chill out, don't press so hard.  I did race a bit online to see how I do and I actually like the feel of sim in an online race too.  I didn't spin out.  But I was a lot more conservative in the corners and like I said, slower than what I have been.

But if in the long run I'll be faster, I'll stick with it.

As far as the cars go, I really like how the 66 Nova feels when driving, and I like the car.  It's not my favorite "Pony" car though.  Doesn't even really fit into that category.  But I do like a good 2 door sedan.

I stumbled onto another car that surprised me, not having to do with this series, but the same Era.  I built up a 70 Chevelle to top of B class to race online and I really really like that car.  For being it big block I think it is totally balanced.  It's quick on acceleration, feels good in the corners, although you can tell it's heavy.  And I only have 215mm with race tires because of it being B class.  But man, I have been cleaning up with all my B class track times with it.  It's the quickest for me whichever I track I try in comparison any of the other B class cars I've built up to top of class.   I have a 510, a 77 Escort, and a 70 Camaro for racing on line in B class.  And the 70 Chevelle SS 454 is by far the fastest for me.  Even with the new steering.  Is that crazy?  It seems like that car would be a beast and too heavy to be quick.

I, with a wheel, run sim steering. (No pun intended.)

The wheel allows me to make small adjustments that normal steering eliminates.

Sim steering will allow you to make much quicker, and much smaller adjustments. If you feel comfortable with your ability to control the car smoothly with such a short range of motion with the joystick, then I would run it. If you can control it, sim steering is effective.

The biggest issue you'll face will be over-correcting the car.

And we're not ignoring you, we're just all very busy with various series at the moment, so sometimes our responses are delayed.

Add us all on XBL if you haven't already, and chat with us when we're online. We may run some test & tunes sessions if we're not busy. (Forum names are our gamertags.)

Thanks for the input!!!

I'll add you to my friends.  I have Ex US Squid.  I actually went on and watched a race he was doing one night.  He was in there with another guy.  I think I made him stop and he invited me to the party but I was getting ready to hit the sack.  But it was cool to watch him race.  I gotta ask this on the other forum, but what is with the Black Jetta's?  I see them almost every time I race on line.

I'll stick with sim steering for now.  It feels better and I'm getting used to it.  But yeah, I've overcorrected a few times and spun because of it.  Something that rarely happened on "normal".   If ever.

The black Jetta is the 'null' car coded by Turn 10. If a player is using a car in a car pack you don't have, you'll see their car represented by the black Jetta.

Where this creates issues is in contact. The Jetta is there for show only, dimensions included. If a person is using a car longer than the Jetta, it's possible to run into them even though you haven't hit the Jetta on your screen.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.  Thank you for the explanation.  I think the sim steering is better. I'm starting to get better times now after using it a bit.  It's still can be a bit more touchy.  For some reason turn 3 at Road America is giving me problems.  I'm usually taking it too fast and I slide more than I used to.  But I'll get the hang of it.  I ran a bunch at Road Atlanta and like what I'm seeing.

ab, the Jetta can be an issue in our series. Many of our cars, especially in T/A are DLC cars. As Avanti explained, the Jetta is just for show. The game still models the actual car that's racing, BUT, you can only see the Jetta. Again, it IS possible to contact a DLC car even when you don't contact the Jetta.

There is a way to fix this though...

Forza was smart enough to include all of the 3D files for each car in a DLC car pack in the freebie car of that given pack.

If you have no desire to purchase the DLC content, at least go and download every free car from every car pack. Each pack has at least one free car. It will say FREE on a red banner at the top left of the car's image when viewing the DLC. Once you download the free car for that pack, you will be able to see all the cars from that DLC pack on the tracks - no more Jettas.

You won't be able to race/buy the other DLC cars, but you can see them and race around them without worrying about running into a ghost.

OK!!  I'll do that.  Thanks for the tip.  I don't remember seeing "Free" on any of them, but I'll have a looksee.
