There have been some crazy rumors about the next gen Xbox...everything from a 16 processor CPU, to Blu-Ray disks, to not even using disks, to a constant stable internet connection required...

Supposedly it will be released in 2013, and most likely coincide with Forza 5 I'm guessing.

I also have heard things. I hear Microsoft would like Windows 8 to play XBox 360 games: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/311166/windows-8-to-play-xbox-360-games-report/ I know 360 games are the older games though it wouldn't be too difficult to get Windows 8 to play neXtBox games as long as Windows programmers know the new format in advance.

Davetime23 wrote:According to the new issue of Game Informer, it is very possible the new xbox will have around 6 times the computing power of the 360. Hellooooo FM5 Wink

XBox comes courtesy of Microsoft; they have no excuse not to have a very powerful system follow the 360. Their dilemma will be, "Just how much do we blow away the 360, and at what cost?" I don't believe a $1200 XBox would sell well. The good news is, technology from 2010 is better than the 360's internals and prices from 2010 tech. have fallen. Other good news: buying in bulk saves cost per item. Microsoft could buy new technology in bulk and pass the savings on to us, essentially building a $900 XBox for $500.

Right! Build a $900 Xbox for $500, sell it for $300 and its golden! The hardware developers always claim they lose money on every console...i really do hope they release it for Christmas 2013.

Ill agree with you 100% on the ALMS link and still lacking tracks...i love the made up tracks, but nothing would be as cool as driving Watkins Glen.

I fully expect Sony to have the higher rig numbers just like with the PS3 compared to the 360 and I also expect Sony to screw it up again just like the PS3. Sone made it a bitch to harness any superior graphics or gameplay physics. Thats why the 360 always had games that looked just as good on the 360 as they would on the PS3. Look at Skyrim. Not only did it look identical on the 360 but some actually felt that Bethesda was able to code a smother framerate on the Xbox. Sony just doesnt understand the ins and outs of how to get the most out of hardware like the kids over at Microsoft. I would expect that since Microsoft has been doing hardware in the computer sector for a year or two more than Sony.

If only Sony and Microsoft could get together and develop a console that works, doesn't red ring, and then toss in the free online portion...

So I had a thought; Rem., thank you for taking me down this tangent. I believe current generation consoles are built just fine. I have always had my 360 set on top of a desk though, with access to plenty of airflow. I bought my 360 in August 2008 and to date I have never had the red ring.

My hopes for a new console go beyond the console itself. As with everything, you're only as strong as your weakest link. So the new XBox is rumored to have a multiple processor CPU, amazing graphics capabilities, a good amount of system RAM, yadda, yadda, yadda. This system will run 120 FPS at 1080p resolution and it'll enable game developers to have circa 42 players in one online room, uh

… [uncomfortable pause]

what's being done to the servers that'll handle these amazing capabilities? If we have issues now, imagine a game that allows 42 people to connect.

One question, one statement:
  1. What do you think? Is the cellular phone model (cheap initial purchase with residual charges) a good business plan for next generation consoles?
  2. It's Microsoft; it's possible they could slap something together the same way HP, Dell, or Gateway could slap something together and sell a different model in about a week. With so many different computer parts out there, possibilities are nearly endless.

This has to do with the current generation of XBox (specifically, mine) but I didn't want to open a new thread about it. I'll tie this problem to the next generation system anyway.

I am having some major difficulties with my system. I've had no problems other than the classic (open CD tray; damn you!) issue. I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of it but I don't want to buy a new (this generation) console if a new (next generation) console will be here in about a year. Holy fracking sheep! My XBox couldn't have bitten the bullet right when the XBox slim came out? Ugh. What-to-do-what-to-do? For now I am using it as sparingly as I can. Honestly I think it's an issue with my system's memory as the game will hang in selective areas after lots of activity. I wish the XBox 360 RAM chips were replaceable.

I am contemplating pulling apart my system and setting it in mineral oil because dust is no longer a worry and heat doesn't build up as fast. Now, if the next generation XBox were the "XBox for system builders" version where the chip and RAM were replaceable/upgradeable that would be sweet! Microsoft could come to a longer-term deal with a company (or companies) to supply RAM and CPU for release, and then maintain their chipset but sell upgraded pieces after two years. I know I'd pay another $200 for a faster CPU and more RAM capacity two years after purchasing the console. I've done that with past computers already, the XBox doesn't have to be any different.

Update about my system: Good news, I don't need a new console. Bad news, it's Forza Motorsport 4 specific. Even worse news, a new copy of the game won't matter. I have access to another disc and the same thing happens.

I've successfully played other titles on my console for hours without any system hang. It's not a general heat or memory problem, it's a specific program problem. I'll try uninstalling Forza 4 and reinstalling it; one of its files may be corrupt.

Computers: Such a love & hate relationship.

You know Ive been cooling with success but possibly the success was deleting old files and pics and the excess FM4 shit Ive amassed over the year. Could be right about some corrupted files screwing stuff up.... So shall we pretend its Xmas early and you gift the crap out of all your files you would like to keep? Also I wonder if it would help if you saved all your excesses like pics, game setups and car setups all on a thumb drive? Think it could help if it is a corruption issue?

I don't think you can save that on a flash drive...at least not in a usable manner. i tried doing it with some replay or movie data to make some promotional movies, rather than having to upload each 5 second clip to the forza website and then download it on my computer...alas it was no good.

Photos may be different but I'm sure they have it programmed to be untouchable.

So more difinitive news has just come out for the new console. Name will not be 720 or Durango but simply "XBOX". Will come with a quad core processor and 8 gigs of ram and a blue ray drive. Will have Kinect 2.0 and also have the ability to use a head mounted augmented reality unit that will come out later in the console cycle. Also this was all leaked to XBOX world with the source claiming that more info will be coming out in the next few months which would be just in time for the Pre E3 hype cycle.

VR head unit? Noice! Bluray disk I'm assuming. That should give plenty of power to go up against the PS4. I like the name better too.

I dig the speculation of 8 GB of RAM and a multi-core CPU.

So even more news about the XBOX new.... Supposedly there will be 2 different consoles. One will be the aforementioned Next Gen XBOX and now a cheaper offering that will utilize windows 8 menus and be for the casual gamer market. The Cheap Box will not be able to play Triple A titles and instead focus on DLC style mini, arcade and indie style games and may or may not even do streaming movies. All rumor mill but seems that there is an awful lot of these detailed rumors coming out all of a sudden. IGN and G4 have them on the homescreens right now.

I'd be surprised to see it go for less than $350, I'd put the ceiling at $600. Inflation plus Micro$oft and all that.

I'm going to say $324.99. A higher console cost makes the jump to a personal computer far more tempting (and scares away potential buyers). The set-top box for the living room could be $149.99.

You will see the new Xbox at the same price as the Nintendo Wii U black high end console. I see the launch cost at $399 to be honest but it would make sense if the Wii U starts selling to announce the Xbox at a close price to it.

It's articles such as this - http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/18/microsoft-nhl-gamecenter-xbox-live/ - why people believe more than one next generation XBox are coming. There is speculation we'll have a gaming XBox and a lesser capable one. As the first nine words of that article say, "Microsoft's quest to become king of the living room."

Oh yea thats been rumored for a lil bit now... maybe a month or so. Cant remember exactly but I was cruising Kotaku back in early december and remember reading an article about that. Saying the cheap one may be disc less and just be a casual stream box that can use stream based game and tv/movie services. Makes sense for parents that want to better restrict their kids access. Also there has been alot of PS4 rumors stating that 4gb of ram is the minimum if they want to keep up with Xbox and that inside sources have stated that Xbox will have 8gb in order to run the rumored "always on" feature that would keep your most played games and apps partially booted up so you could switch on the fly as fast as the change of a channel.

I just read that now it seems to be an Intel chip in the Xbox but also Ive previously heard IBM. All rumors have stated a 4 core 20-28nm 3.2ghz chip. Seems that Sony will announce the PS4 most likely in the next weeks to month or so where its more likely Microsoft will announce closer to May for a media field day leading into E3 in Early June. But Sony has no desire to be the first out of the gate. Sony hints at post 2013 release date
