Next time around...
Who's going to stay in their series? Who's gonna move up or down?
I'm thinking about doing an AI car next time around, maybe a little blue oval fun, or run one of my beloved arrowhead cars.

I wouldn't mind trying AIX out. There are a lot more cars to choose from. I'm not sure though because I really enjoy the AI racing, though it would not be that bad actually passing some people. Even if they are in a lower class.

Yes, please!
No, I am definitely in for another "season" or spin-off series. You guys have made this game far more enjoyable for me, and have also made me a better driver. I don't think the regular online lobbies could even hold a candle to racing like we do on Friday nights. I am down for whatever is up next.
If we do not get the rumored Trans Am Car Pack (Challenger T/A, Cuda AAR, SB Camaro and Mustang, etc.), I may try AIX, just so I can run my muscle. Have a hell of a Daytona I want to try out against you guys, and a Challenger (old school) that would look right at home on the track at these events.
Re: Next time around...
What I have in mind is a GT Class based Grand-Am style series. I'm still in the testing phase, but I'm getting closer. I may have some of you run some laps when the time comes. I hope all will be interested, however some may not be. These cars will be S class.

The Challenger, or the sticker?
Edit: I'd be game for running a GT style operation. Squid mentioned you were looking into it a while ago in passing. Any possibility of an RX8 being an option?

Absolutely, the Challenger is the only picture I have at the moment. I've got about 16 cars to choose from and the RX-8 is one of them. Who would have a Rolex GT based series without the RX-8? Is this some kind of JOKE?

Re: Next time around...
Simcik! Where did you hear this was a possibility!? You better not jerk my chain like that or you'll be asking me why I docked you 318,302 points. Small block pony cars are some of my favorite cars [Jeremy Clarkson voice] in thuuuuhhhh woooooorllllddddd. [/voice]Simcik wrote:…If we do not get the rumored Trans Am Car Pack (Challenger T/A, Cuda AAR, SB Camaro and Mustang, etc.)…
Forza already has the '69 Z/28 so that's cool (wish they'd delete the vinyl roof). We also have the '65 Mustang GT with a 289 and we have other proper makes/models except their engines are too big. In my humble opinion we need the 1968-1972 Trans-Am cars. We need various 1966-1970 Mustangs with and without the sports roof (fastback) and 302 cubic inch engines. Challengers with 318s. And Firebirds with 302s. The in-game first gen. Firebirds only need appropriate small block engine swap options and they'd be set.
A T-A car pack could have six "golden year" Trans-Am chassis, four of the T-A chassis raced circa 1993-1997 and a separate title update with new engine swaps for the existing muscle cars, and I don't think I'd leave the house for months.
Edit follows:
I like this forum's layout better, just thought I'd get that out there. Thank you Simcik for getting this all set, and thank you tripany for your offer too. Proof it's not what you know, it's who you know.
I'm all for handing over the reigns after A.I. finishes. If you like the screen shot updates I can assist Tux or whomever else ends up hosting following this series. Like you probably read on the FM.net forums, I have a spreadsheet which keeps track of scoring across multiple pages; enter a numerical position in one box and other boxes (even pages away) make changes to scores.

Not that I enjoy being docked points, but wouldn't it be 340,302 points?
I will try to find the post, but I had seen that on a couple sites. Supposedly it's due out next to go along with the ALMS pack. I heard there may be a track in it too. Damn, I've gotto find that info...
Re: Next time around...
Actually I already knew but double checked to make sure and SCCA in 1970 allowed larger displacement motors eligible to be de-stroked to the 5.0 litre/305 cube rules to allow the 400 firebirds and 340 mopars in. So everybody ran 305s. But I feel for you and I Sim we should get docked 340,006 points for the legend that is the 340-6pack! And I have been screamin, bitchin and whining for Small Block Mopars ever since FM4 launched! I will be the happiest camper in the world if its true. It is a legit rumor right or are you just BSin us?

I think it was on here, but it's unconfirmed best I can tell from the thread (All 700 pages of it.)

Re: Next time around...
So that's how they allowed the larger displacement cars to be allowed in Trans-Am competition. Good deal. I see courtesy of Desktop Dyno that the 273, 318, and 340 differentiated in cylinder bore; they shared a 3.313" stroke crank. So if a 340 block was used, they had a stock bore of 4.040" and could have no larger than a 2.974" stroke crank. If some team chose to use the 318 block (3.910" bore), they could have a maximum stroke length of 3.175" Those bets are off if teams sleeved the blocks to de-bore and gain some extra stroke length.Ex US Squid wrote:Actually I already knew but double checked to make sure and SCCA in 1970 allowed larger displacement motors eligible to be de-stroked to the 5.0 litre/305 cube rules to allow the 400 firebirds and 340 mopars in. Re: Next time around...
Yea back then Im have no doubts whatsoever that there was "grey area" cheating rampancy all across the board just because it was less likely they had engine tear downs before and after races like say in Sprint Cup right now. But according to the rules the large displacement motors were teched for 5.0 and Chrysler used the 340 small block solely as its engine entry. I couldnt tell you if some Ma an Pa team threw together a 318 or even a modified 273 but Dodge and Plymouth wanted to sell folks on the 340 which pound for pound smoked plenty of 350s over the years although for some reason in the 318 configuration the motor was as close to bulletproof as V8s get.

Interestingly enough, the 340 was actually the best small block Mopar made (until the Magnums in the 90s). It had the best block and the biggest bore (even larger than the 360), with souped-up interals from the factory. Simply stroking it made a hell of an engine.
If you Mopar fans don't already know, this site is one of the best for Mopar info.

Re: Next time around...
Yea Sim the 318 and 340 were twins basically besides the bottom end internals basically but for some reason you could let high school kids rape a 318 for several hundred thousand miles and it would come out like you never romped on it at all. Amazingly reliable that 318. Personally I would never own one if I had a 340 option! I cant resist the 340s. Definitely my favorite of all time that 340. I always wanted to build a blueprinted 340-6pack for a 69 Dart or 70 Challenger/Cuda. Or a 63-65 Dodge or Plymouth Polara/Savoy... Im with you Sim. Mopar Believer through and through. But I like our lil group here cause we dont hate on each other for enjoying a particular brand. Seems to many in other groups do that. But Im really good at arguing so I take on the trash talkers and treat em like Ol Yeller in his final day. Take em out and put em down lol.

Re: Next time around...
Talk about thrashing on a 318 - that 97 Ram I have, it's a 5.2l (318). 360,XXX miles, no engine (or transmission) work. Just maintanance. Still runs great, doesn't burn oil (Maybe a 1/2qt every 3000 miles.), doesn't smoke, idles smooth and easily. It's been bullet-proof, and it's been through alot. It's been all over Texas and Oklahoma, to Colorado and back twice, to PA and back, hauled trailers WAAAY too heavy for a normal 1/2 ton, drag raced (actually did pretty good) one summer, it's been a hell of a truck, and that 318 just keeps runnin'.
Re: Next time around...
This just in, the Challenger may not make the cut for my series. However, Mopar will still be represented by a certain snake we know of.

The good news is that I am homing in on final builds. I just eliminated a few as they would not be competitive. Keep your eye on this thread for updates. I will let those of you who are interested know when I'm ready to have you test. Squid, the Viper you have will probably have a slightly different build.

Hey Tux, I'm in on the GT Rolex go around. Put me down for #13 and a 2010 Camaro. I have a Real Camaro livery for that car.
