Lots of interesting stuff coming down the pike. Seems like the momentum will just keep building.

http://www.allpar.com/model/upcoming.html

I'm especially interested in the new Avenger replacement, especially if they go RWD, and the new Challengers.

This might look like speculation to some of you, but Allpar is known for their accuracy in reporting. They are way ahead of the curve on predictions, as they have so many insiders who contribute to them. If they say a pink rhinoceros is coming, then it probably is.

Yes it will. They tested is months ago though. Guess it shows much time goes into post-production and editing.

Wonder what the Brit's will think about it? Clarkson always like them - the others???

Yeah it's funny cause they always say they hate american cars but both hammond and clarkson have liked the previous vette, viper and of course clarkson loved the Ford GT.

It seems to be the in thing these days to bash on American cars.

As an American and an American engineer I have a hard time jumping on the boat of bashing american cars... Hard to argue with the country whose engineers took man kind to the moon and brought us into the nuclear age... At any rate haven't been able to cross that line yet. I'm okay with owning a Ford or Dodge, just can't seem to pull the trigger on the foreign stuff yet. I've looked real hard at the BMW's. I really like the E46 M3's, if only they didn't cost an arm and leg to maintain. Seems like all the foreign cars worth owning are outside of my price bracket i.e. supra, rx7, r34, r35, M anything and basically any fast car from italy. Maybe one day I'll be able expand my horizons beyond ford and dodge.

EDIT: sorry Sim, think I just hijacked your thread. So what's the future of Mopar looking like?

I really think that's more true than anything. They're British - they kinda hate us. They definitely look down at us. To them, our cars ride too soft, are too big, make too little power for their displacements, etc.

What they fail to understand is our car culture. Over there, you buy it, and that's it. If you're adventurous, you take it to a tuner. You don't do much customizing, where as here, almost no two cars look the same, and very few remain unchanged after they leave the showroom.

Furthermore, the way they build cars is far different. They build cars that have tons of nice features, gobs of power, great suspensions, etc. or they build econoboxes. There aren't many in between. Also, those tighter tolerances, higher pressures, better materials, etc. all wear out sooner and require more to repair. Where as an American car can last several hundred thousand miles with just routine maintenance, most European cars have to be completely rebuilt well before then.

Our cars and different. I think ours are better, but there's are nice. They just don't really get our culture, and therefore can't see why cars are built the way they are here.

Sadly Sim it seems most Americans prefer foreign cars these days. Mainly Asian cars. Frankly I don't get it. I drove a friends Mazda 3 and I couldn't even stretch my legs with the seat all the way back... I can do that in my 2 seater vette (and camino)!!! I think it has to do mainly with the preconception that American cars are gas guzzlers. Even if it isn't true people think it and you know what they say, "the masses are asses".

Look at the upfront costs & mainenance costs of European cars, then compare the features and driving/handling characteristics of them to American cars, and it's not really hard to not pull the trigger. The notable European brands (BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar) cost more to buy and maintain, and the cheap European brands are usually just rebadges of car available here.

Supercars are different. They get some slack cut for being what they are.

To extend on the differences between European and American cars

Look at the geography: Proportionately, Europe has more mountainous roads and roads that are more twisty in general. That's not saying the United States doesn't have twisty roads, because it does. The United States simply has more room to stretch out and go straight. European cars must handle corners well where independent suspensions and coilover setups are almost necessities. European lanes are more narrow so their cars must also be more narrow; again, the United States has room to stretch out. Europeans make fun of us for our archaic use of solid rear axles. The fact is, a solid rear axle inherently handles more power than an independent rear suspension and our road system allows for our manufacturers to build cars with solid rear axles.

Question: If we were to uproot I-80, I-10, I-5, and I-95 (and I mean every foot of those highways) from the United States and lay them out in Europe … where would Europeans put them? Adding lengths of I-80 and I-10 would connect Spain to China [and you'd have to knock down four lanes worth of width in their Great Wall]. Linking I-5 and I-95 would connect Finland to Saudi Arabia. 80 and 10, and the sections of 5 and 95 about which I'm referring are in one country.

The geography also partially explains why European people are a fan of road course racing (technical circuits where braking, the heel-and-toe downshift, chicanes, and lateral-G forces are celebrated) whereas American people go cray-cray for drag racing (stop light wars) and oval racing (top speed in top gear).

Well, not only that, but the way cars are approached. It is not normal to see older cars in Europe. It is not normal to work on your own cars in Europe. At least it is not normal to the same extent it is here.

American manufacturers could make a car that would beat the socks of any Euro, but American's wouldn't buy it. They wouldn't want to spend the extra money upfront. They would resent that they couldn't work on it themselves. They'd hate that it wouldn't just start up and run fine with no issues for 100,000 miles - even though they never changed the oil. Etc.

And Asian cars are typically sold through good marketing. Kia? Not a good car, but decent for the money and excellent marketing. Hyundai? Same thing. Toyota? They're still riding the fact that some of their old cars used to be reliable - no one realized that making everything manual (not electric) cut down on most issues. They're very overrated. Anyway, point is American cars are built to suit us - no one else.

In general I agree with you. But of late more and more american car companies are embracing the global market concept. This means platforms must work in mulitple markets. So American cars have to please the home market and other markets (Europe, Australia etc) even though they aren't the primary markets. If American car companies want to continue to be successful they will have to win back ground in america and win ground in traditional un-american markets. Fun fact: did you know that before WWI (maybe it was WWII I'm a little fuzzy on which war) Japan had almost all American cars with very few to nill domestics?

Either of those eras would make sense as Japan's industry was either not capable of building cars due to technology not being up to snuff or it being blown the EFF up.

Avanti hit the nail on the head, cat companies build what the geography demands. That's why American car makers work so well in Australia. Its wide and open with minimal mountains.

Same with China...its wide and flat and open. The other challenge is the cultural divides...the closed nature of Japan is a massive challenge.

SRT is looking to compete at Le Mans. http://jalopnik.com/5980527/

Jalopnik spins this as Viper vs. Corvette. I like to spin this as Corvette & Viper vs. Porsche, BMW, & Ferrari. Go get 'em guys!

Personally, I think it is Viper vs. Europe and Viper vs. Vette. They will likely have no friends and be the black sheep of the series - which it fine with me.
