For those interested in the Engineering of the new Vette

Post  Sorta05 on Tue Jan 15, 2013 11:40 pm

**Added short motortrend video that hits most of the highlights for those with ADD**

Let's try to keep this thread to the facts and keep speculation to a minimum. The engineers from GM spell out most of the details here except for actual performance figures. Base price is estimated to start at 60k, with some rumors of high 50's as the actual starting price. 0-60 is sub 4 seconds for the base vette. The video below is a summation or highlight real of the full interviews (about 1.5 hours posted below, 2 videos) with added graphics and video overlay of the parts when they are being discussed.

If you have ADD this one is for you:

30 minute overview video talking with engineers:

Long interviews with no video overlays:

Great videos Sorta! I'm through the first one. I loved the suspension discussion.

It's funny to hear the lead chassis engineer call the poor man's brakes "sliding calipers". I've always known, and been taught, "floating". Folks this is me picking pepper out of fly shit here, but just an observation. Plus I'm enjoying some more Golden Monkey.......yeah........ cheers

I see you added the Motor Trend video, Sorta. I was just going to put that one up.

I am liking the car more and more. Yes, even the rear. The designers were told to "go forward" while also wanting to keep some Corvette traditions and along the way they added some features learned in their C[5&6]R days. That's all very cool.

Videos do this car better justice. I really am starting to like the overall package.

Seeing it in person as well does wonders too, looks absolutely stunning in person, though the hood kinda looks a bit awkward at some angles

I found the part with Jay talking about the rear cargo area quite amusing. I used to go to CostCo with my dad, in the '92. We stuffed that poor car full some times, with me carrying groceries on my lap and by my feet. We never had to make a return trip.

G.M. took patents out for "L88." And while G.M. is using the LT1 moniker again, the potential for LT4 comes back.

So G.M. is using LT1 again with strong chances L88 and LT4 make a return. Could we also see usage of LT5 (the D.O.H.C. C4 ZR-1 engine)?

I am so tired of lap times... We either need all tracks, so we can get a feel for the car's performance everywhere, or we need to just stick with a benchmark. I choose Top Gear's Test Track.

Road and track is trying to make VIR America's Ring.  It's a sweet track and very long in the config they run.  But you are right each track will provide different results.

There’s a lot of cool information in this article though I really like this tidbit, “… the Corvette development team bought only a single car against which to benchmark the C7 Corvette …” the 911 Carrera S. Why didn’t they aim for something hotter? Well, this is just Stingray trim. Wait until the ZO or ZR trim packages come out.

Cool find Avanti!  That's awesome how they track tire temps and regulate the abs, e-diff and traction systems!
