While in South Bend …
I saw a Studebaker shift knob at the swap meet with its gear positions scribed on it. Picture a 6-speed gate in today's world (without Reverse). The pattern looks like so: |-|-|
First was where first is today, second was where sixth is, third was where second is, fourth lined up where today's fourth is, fifth was where third is, and reverse was where fifth is. Imagine rowing through that gate. Talk about an inefficient pattern.

Wow! Hey guys, I built a transmission that works, but I couldn't figure out a shift rail/fork system that made any sense!
